Tita has two older sisters - Rosaura and Gertrudis.  Neither one of them enjoy cooking as much as Tita does, so Tita quickly bonds with Nacha, and spends most of her day cooking and singing and listening to the wise words of Nacha.

There is one other issue which occupies Tita's thoughts. . . and that is Pedro Muzquiz.  Pedro and Tita fell in love at first sight.  Pedro is handsome and daring and very ready to declare his love for Tita.  Finally, when the two are in their teenage years, he tells her he wishes to marry her.  For Tita, this is the happiest day of her life.
