Shortcut to Nov 19
Time spent in other classes preparing papers and reading books will be spent in this class preparing the "elements" of our newscast. Therefore, you should expect to spend time outside of class researching, developing and preparing the elements for our newscast. Time in class will be spent reviewing your work and collaboratively preparing the newscast, which will be taped on Thursday afternoons during class. Once recorded, the newscast will be broadcast over UD's Student Television Network (STN) weekly.
Students in this class will coordinate and cooperate with students in COMM326 (TV Field Production) taught by Dr. Jennifer Lambe. As you will see, some TV production assignments prepared by students in COMM326 may provide content to be used in our newscast. Producers, therefore, will be responsible for coordinating with those students on project ideas. Details are noted in the syllabus below. We will also depend for production of our newscast on students of UD's Student Television Network (STN). Assignments will coordinate with theirs in some cases, and the success of your programming will depend, in some cases, on their work.

Reading Assignment: Begin reading course text, Television News: A Handbook for Writing, Reporting, Shooting & Editing
You will benefit from "front-loading" your reading of this text, because you'll discover the value of the text in your everyday work on our newscast.
This text has also been chosen to serve you as an excellent reference resource, in this class, but more importantly, in a future job in broadcast news.
