Harry (Tripp) Shenton, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, was quoted in a Sept. 28 Minneapolis Star Tribune story about the use of bridge-failure sensors. Shenton told the newspaper, "It's still kind of an emerging technology, so a lot of it is being done by researchers at universities. There aren't a lot of companies that specialize in it."

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Sept. 25 Memphis Commercial Appeal story about FedEx and a shareholder vote on key governance issues. Elson was quoted in a Sept. 18 Los Angeles Times story about the issue of corporate climate change disclosures and in a Sept. 17 American Public Media Marketplace program discussion of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Arthur Sloane, professor emeritus of business administration, was quoted in a Sept. 25 News Journal story about the United Auto Workers strike at General Motors. “It's a political, not an economic strike,” Sloane told the newspaper. “It is not going to last more than a couple of days. It gets the members in a position to accept these cutbacks that are going to take place.” The strike ended Sept. 26.

Leland Ware, Louis L. Redding Chair for the Study of Law and Public Policy, was quoted in a Sept. 20 News Journal story about the Jena 6 case. “This is a real, hard-core case of prosecutors overcharging,” Ware told the newspaper.

James Corbett, associate professor of marine and earth studies, was cited in a Sept. 19 Nature (UK) story about emissions from cargo vessels.

Joel Best, professor of sociology, was quoted in a Sept. 19 Peoria (Ill.) Journal Star story about crime statistics. He told the newspaper, “You can't just treat these numbers as inherently meaningful. You want to be a little bit calm when looking at crime statistics because it's easy to become confused and panicked.”

Jamie Cunningham, associate professor of theatre, was cited in a Sept. 18 New York Times story about a gathering of alumni of the Martha Graham Dance Company.

George Luther, Maxwell P. and Mildred H. Harrington Professor of Marine Studies, Matt Hawkins, director of marine operations, graduate student Heather Nees, postdoctoral researcher Becky Holyoke and Jim Warrington, first mate, were quoted in a Sept. 18 News Journal story about UD's Research Vessel Hugh R. Sharp.

Eleanor Craig, professor of economics and associate chairperson of the department, was the newsmaker guest on WILM's Money and Politics in Delaware show on Sept. 15. The subject of the interview was public education finances in Delaware and the status of tax exempt financing for school construction projects in charter schools.

Mark Bambach, instructor of business administration, was featured in a Sept. 5 BusinessWeek story about business school professors recommended by students. “You can be a friend, teacher and cheerleader at the same time,” he told the magazine. “They're not mutually exclusive.”
