3:11 p.m., Oct. 15, 2007--A roundup of recent news items about UD, its faculty, students, staff and alumni.

Muqtedar Khan, associate professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in an Oct. 12 story in The New York Times concerning outreach to the Christian community by Muslim clerics and theologians.

Bethany Hall-Long, associate professor of nursing and state legislator, was quoted in an Oct. 11 News Journal story about the death of State Sen. James T. Vaughn. "Even when he wasn't doing well at all, he knew everything that was going on in the district," Hall-Long said. "Even when he was doing badly, he never, ever complained."

James Flatley, director of public safety, was quoted in an Oct. 11 News Journal story about testing of the new UD Alert system. Flatley told the newspaper he was “pleased about the test,” and added, “If something occurred right now, we would use the system.”

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an Oct. 11 Bloomberg News story about the legal fallout from options backdating at Brocade Communications Systems.

David Stone, associate professor of art history, was cited in an Oct. 8 Malta Independent story about his participation in a Caravaggio exhibition and symposium in Malta.

Irene Davis, professor of physical therapy and director of UD's Running Injury Laboratory, was cited in an Oct. 7 Chicago Tribune story about the high number of injuries among runners.

Simon Condliffe, assistant policy scientist in the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, was quoted in an Oct. 5 News Journal story about rising health care spending in the state. There are "more people living in the state, getting older and demanding more health care," he said.

Joel Best, professor of sociology, was quoted in an Oct. 4 Chronicle of Higher Education story about the new journal Sociology Compass, of which he is editor in chief.

Marsha Dickson, chairperson of the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies, was cited in an Oct. 1 Women's Wear Daily story about UD's online graduate certificate program in socially responsible and sustainable apparel business. She and the program also were cited in the Apparel and Footwear Association newsletter.

Charles Robinson, professor of English, was cited in a story in The Common Review about who wrote Frankenstein.
