John Byrne, director of UD's Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, was quoted in a Nov. 9 News Journal story about oil prices and fuel efficiency. Byrne and Frederick Nelson, professor of geography, were featured in a Nov. 7 WDEL-AM radio story about their work with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Todor Stanev, professor of physics and astronomy, was cited in a Nov. 9 Science story about research on subatomic particles that crash into Earth's atmosphere.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Nov. 8 Financial Times story about media mogul Rupert Murdoch and the Wall Street Journal and in a Nov. 8 Chicago Tribune story about Kraft Foods and powerful shareholder Nelson Peltz. Also, Elson was quoted in Nov. 7 Financial Times and Reuters stories about Murdoch's News Corp., in a Nov. 4 New York Times story about Merrill Lynch, in a Nov. 2 Investor's Business Daily story about Oracle and in a Nov. 2 Sacramento Bee story about the embrace of a United Nations campaign on responsible business practices by the California State Teachers' Retirement System.

Eric Jacobson, associate professor of urban affairs, was quoted in a Nov. 8 News Journal story about plans by Christiana Care Health System to expand Wilmington Hospital.

Michael Chajes, interim dean of the College of Engineering, was quoted in a Nov. 8 News Journal story about the Indian River Inlet bridge.

Bernard Herman, chairperson of the Department of Art History, was quoted in a Nov. 8 St. Petersburg Times story about a seminar on “The State of Southern Food” at the University of Mississippi. “Food is never an innocent bystander,” Herman said. “Food is always political.”

James Corbett, associate professor of marine and earth studies, was quoted Nov. 7 regarding a new report on shipping emissions by a number of news outlets, including the Associated Press, Reuters, the Toronto Star and the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

Linda Gottfredson, professor of education, was quoted in a Nov. 7 Scientific American story on the effect of breast-feeding on IQ.

Irene Davis, professor of physical therapy, was featured Nov. 1 on ABC's Good Morning America program in a story about an athlete who ran 63 marathons in 63 days.

Raymond Callahan, professor emeritus of history, was highlighted on the History News Network Web site for his presentation on guerilla warfare tactics presented at Arsht Hall on UD's Wilmington campus.

Marsha Dickson, chairperson of the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies, was quoted in an Oct. 30 Women's Wear Daily story about environmental standards and fashion wear production. "Environmental laws and regulations vary greatly in producing countries. [For example], China has some of the strictest regulations, but they're not enforced. It's a matter of whether there has been an importing brand that really pushed it. That's going to be the difference and it's going to be more on a factory-by-factory level,” Dickson said.

Charles E. Robinson, professor of English, appeared on an Oct. 25 Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio show to discuss the topic “Who wrote Frankenstein?”

April Veness, associate professor of geography who undertook a potable water project at San Isidro in Guatemala, was featured Oct. 24 on the Rotary International Web site. Rotary provided funding for the project.
