Delaware synchronized skaters win silver medal

3:05 p.m., Dec. 4, 2007--The University of Delaware Synchronized Skating Team won the silver medal in the collegiate division at the 12th annual Dr. Richard Porter Synchronized Classic held Dec. 1-2 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

It was the highest placement for the team in the classic.

The Miami University of Ohio won the gold, followed by UD, the University of Illinois, the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. A total of 12 teams were entered in the collegiate division.

"The girls were so excited to be able to go out there so early in the season and perform so well," Coaches Megan O'Donnell and Wendy Deppe said.

The team, representing the UD Figure Skating Club, skated the program “Four Stories of Winter.” They portrayed four different stories about the season, including loneliness, childhood memories, the Olympic Games, and celebrations and traditions.

The team is looking forward to the 2008 Eastern Sectional Championships to be held in late January in Richmond, Va. The sectional competition will help the skaters qualify for the national championships to be held in late February in Providence, R.I.
