UD women’s basketball falls to Michigan State

9:58 p.m., March 18, 2007--The University of Delaware women's basketball team fell to Michigan State University 69-58 in an NCAA Division I championship tournament first round game played Sunday evening in East Lansing, Mich.

The Fightin' Blue Hens played Michigan State close through the first half, trailing just 25-20 at the break, but went down by 10 early in the second half and were unable to overtake the Spartans.

With the loss, the Hens finish the season at 26-6. It was the last game for seniors Tyresa Smith, Chrissy Fisher and Alena Koshansky. Smith scored 19 points and Fisher 13. Guard Kyle DeHaven scored 12.

“Our inability to hit shots tonight hurt us in this game,” UD Head Coach Tina Martin said. “Their rebounding and size difference wore us down. However, our kids really competed tonight. Our three seniors did a tremendous job of leading us. It’s one of the best teams we have ever had. I’m really proud of the progress we have made as a program. The fact that we went up against a Big Ten school and pushed them to the limit says a lot.”
