City water mains being flushed this week 5:35 p.m., March 26, 2007--Each year the city of Newark flushes its water-main system to remove sediment, check water valve operations and test fire hydrants. This year's water-main-flushing program is scheduled for Monday-Friday, March 26-30, during the University of Delaware's spring break. Water-main flushing is performed at this time of low-water usage to minimize its impact on water service. As flushing of water mains is conducted in various neighborhoods, residents may experience fluctuations in water pressure and changes in water clarity. These changes are temporary. Residents are advised, however, to minimize their water usage from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on their scheduled water-main-flushing day and to postpone laundering to prevent possible staining by discolored water. To find out when the water mains in specific Newark neighborhoods are scheduled to be flushed, go to [www.cityofnewarkde.us/index.asp?NID=181]. The city advises anyone whose laundry becomes stained to keep their laundry wet and rewash it with "Rover Rust" powder. Free "Rover Rust" powder packets are available from the Water and Wastewater Department located on the second floor of the Municipal Building. |
