Plenty of prizes at 9th annual Housing Fair

5:17 p.m., March 2, 2007--With a Chinese New Year's theme and plenty of music, food, entertainment and some great prizes, UD's ninth annual Housing Fair was held Feb. 20 in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.

The fair was held to familiarize students with the on-campus housing sign-up and online application processes, and to promote on-campus housing locations and options available to all returning students.

“Students came in and enjoyed visiting the information table, where they were able to get the information they needed,” Janette Humphrey, staff assistant in student housing assignment services, said. “We wanted to let students know that we are here. This is a good way for students to gain information about services and to get involved in campus activities.”

Student winners in the 2007 Campus Housing Fair include:

  • Grand prize--free on-campus housing and dining meal plan for the 2007-08 academic year, freshman Kristen Cadillac;
  • First prize--free on-campus housing for 2007-08 academic year, freshman Gina Truono and junior Jennifer Reefe;
  • Second prize--free dining meal plan for 2007-08 academic year, freshman David George and senior Melissa Silverstein;
  • Third prize--free on-campus housing for fall 2007 semester, sophomore Amanda K. Hulme and freshman Katharine M. Bruno; and
  • Fourth prize--free dining meal plan for fall 2007 semester, sophomore Lauren Robinson and sophomore Emily Wallhauser.

“This was a really exciting way to kick off the room assignment period for 2007,” Linda Carey, director of Housing Assignment Services, said.
“We had a really good turnout, about 1,200 students, compared to about 500 when the first event was held.”

Prizes also included a free microwave refrigerator rental, free bed loft rental, a $300 book scholarship from the UD Bookstore and $100 FLEX credit. Door prizes included a $100 housing credit, a $200 meal plan credit, $100 in points, a UD bus trips for two, a pair of tickets for any Bob Carpenter Center event and two vouchers to any Professional Theatre Training Program production.
