UD chefs to vie for top culinary honors

5:18 p.m., March 20, 2007--UD Dining Services chefs Daniel Beggs, David Brown and Carl Zampini will compete for top culinary honors during the ARAMARK Culinary Excellence (ACE) competition at the University of Delaware, Thursday, March 22. The competition recognizes and rewards outstanding chefs throughout the organization and provides ARAMARK chefs with the opportunity to share their culinary expertise with a broader audience in an environment that is competitive and stimulating.

Executive Chef Daniel Beggs has provided the Blue & Gold Club with outstanding menu options for more than 20 years and specializes in the seafood of the Eastern Shore.

Chef Brown has been at UD for two years and is responsible for catering at the Wilmington Campus.

Executive Chef Zampini's background includes experience at the Blue & Gold Club and country clubs. Returning to UD two years ago, Zampini now provides catering services, including special event catering, from the Pencader Dining Complex.
The three UD chefs will compete against ARAMARK chefs from the University of Pennsylvania and West Chester and Widener universities. The chefs will prepare appetizers, entrees and desserts, which will be judged by members of the University community.

The chefs' creations will be presented from 4-6:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room at Pencader Dining Hall, and students may vote for their favorites.

The finalist from the competition will compete at the ACE National Challenge in July.

The ARAMARK Higher Education division provides a wide range of food, facility and other support services to approximately 500 colleges and universities nationwide.
