UD Library exhibition catalog wins award

9:16 a.m., March 21, 2007--The University of Delaware Library has been named a co-recipient of the 2007 Leab American Book Prices Current Exhibition Award for the exhibition catalog, "Ezra Pound in His Time and Beyond: The Influence of Ezra Pound on Twentieth-Century Poetry.”

UD shares the highly competitive honor, sponsored by the Rare Books and Manuscript Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries, with Duke University.

Upon learning of the award, Jesse Rossa, assistant librarian in Special Collections who created the catalog, said, "On behalf of the library I am honored to receive this award for the catalog 'Ezra Pound in His Time and Beyond.' I am pleased that the fine collection compiled by Robert A. Wilson was able to be incorporated into such a landmark exhibition, and much gratitude is also extended to Michael Russem for his lovely and appropriate design sensibility in the creation of the printed catalog. I hope that it will continue to serve as a basic introduction to the myriad personae of Ezra Pound, protean artist and 20th-century modernist figurehead."

The catalog includes a preface by University President David P.
Roselle; an essay "On Special Collections" by University Provost Dan Rich; and acknowledgments by Susan Brynteson, Mae Morris Director of Libraries. The publication of the catalog was supported by the University of Delaware Library Associates and the Melva B. Guthrie Endowment.

The Ezra Pound exhibition, which the catalog accompanied, was curated by Rossa and mounted in Special Collections from February through June 16, 2006. It featured the comprehensive and renowned Ezra Pound Collection formed over decades by the eminent bibliophile Robert A. Wilson, who designated UD as the home for his collection. The online version of the exhibition may be found at:

The award will be presented during the American Library Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., in June.
