Tracy Downs, program director at UD's Center for Counseling and Student Development, was featured in a July 12 WHYY-TV Delaware Tonight story about the AlcoholEdu for College program being presented during the DelaWorld new student orientation sessions. The online alcohol education course is aimed at creating a learning experience that motivates behavior change, resets unrealistic expectations about the effects of alcohol, links choices about drinking to academic and personal success, and helps students practice healthier and safer decision-making.

Balaji Panchapakesan, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, was featured in a July 12 Optics.org story about his research on the use of lightweight devices to power scientific instruments in space, thus lightening payloads.

Michael Gamel-McCormick, director of UD's Center for Disabilities Studies, was quoted in a story in the July/August issue of Delaware Business magazine concerning the importance of early childhood education.

Johnie Burton, director of financial aid, was quoted in the July 11 News Journal and the July 8 Delaware State News in stories about the increasing cost of student loans.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair in Corporate Governance and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a July 10 Chicago Tribune story about a stock option package for the vice chairman of Sears Holdings and in a July 9 Detroit Free Press column about shareholder activist Kirk Kerkorian and General Motors. Elson also was quoted in a July 8 Associated Press story on the tarnished legacy of the late Ken Lay and in a July 3 Wall Street Journal story about corporate funding for shareholder activism, drawn from a panel discussion as part of one of Elson's spring semester classes on campus.

Ben Yagoda, professor of English, wrote an essay on the parts of speech in the July 9 New York Times Magazine.

Pam Gregory, figure skating coach at UD's Ice Skating Science Development Center, was featured in a July 8 News Journal story after being named the Professional Skaters Association Coach of the Year. Gregory is the coach of reigning World Champion Kimmie Meissner.

Robert Schweitzer, professor of finance, was featured in a July 8 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette story on volunteers who staff Major League Baseball's All-Star FanFest in conjunction with the annual All-Star game, played this year in Pittsburgh. Schweitzer has worked at 11 FanFests and said, "This is so different from being a professor," he said. "It's just a neat change of pace and fun."

James MacMahan, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, was quoted in a June 29 Mobile (Ala.) Register story about rip currents.

Karl Hassler, associate director in IT-Network and Systems Services, and Carol Anderer, manager in IT-User Services, were quoted in the May/June issue of Ed Tech magazine in a story about issues, including security, surrounding student computer use.
