Police are investigating spate of robberies

3:37 p.m., April 13, 2007--This has been a busy week for local police, with a spate of robberies, two of which have involved University of Delaware students.

In the most recent incident, Newark Police report that a 19-year-old UD student was robbed at 2:20 a.m., Friday, April 13, at the intersection of South College Avenue and West Park Place.

Police said the victim and a friend were walking northbound on South College Avenue when they were approached by two males, about 16 or 17 years of age, on BMX-style low-rider bicycles. The suspects threatened the student by implying that they had a gun, stole property that included a cell phone, camera and wallet, then rode off southbound on their bikes. The victim was not injured in the incident.

Police said one suspect was about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and about 140-160 pounds and had a shaved head. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. The second suspect was about 5-5 and 130-150 pounds with short black hair and a thin mustache. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Newark Police also are investigating the robbery of a man at 10:26 p.m., Thursday, April 12, at Marrows Road and Wyoming Road. The victim was walking when two men in a black late 1980s Oldsmobile pulled up, pointed a handgun at him and demanded money. The victim turned over his wallet and coat and the suspects drove off.

One of the suspects had a scar near his right eye, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black knit neck warmer. The other also was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
