YoUDee in contention for Mascot Hall of Fame

3:46 p.m., June 20, 2006--YoUDee has been nominated to be the next collegiate mascot inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame. Also UD alumnus Bob Boudwin, one of the first YoUDees, who is now inhabiting Clutch, the Houston Rockets' 7-foot-2-inch-tall bear, is in the running for the professional mascot slot. Online voting continues through Saturday, July 15.

Sharon Harris, assistant director of public relations and mascot coordinator, said, “We're honored and very excited to be on this year's Collegiate Mascot Hall of Fame ballot. Since YoUDee arrived on campus in fall 1993, it has become an important ambassador for the University and a stirring symbol of the Blue Hen spirit. YoUDee also has become a nationally known character, having won a national mascot championship and appeared in numerous commercials and exhibits. We encourage all of YoUDee's friends--students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the University--to show their spirit and cast their votes for YoUDee.”

Anyone who votes at [www.mascothalloffame.com], will be able to see how many votes have been cast for each mascot, and individuals can cast as many votes as they choose for their favorite mascot.

Mascot winners will be inducted in a ceremony at Love Park in center city Philadelphia, Tuesday, Aug. 15.

The Mascot Hall of Fame began in 2004 with the Phillie Phanatic, Phoenix Suns Gorilla and Famous Chicken becoming its first inductees in 2005. As of today, the Mascot Hall of Fame is web-based, but officials are looking for a permanent venue.

The Mascot Hall of Fame was founded to pay tribute to outstanding mascot programs that have contributed to enthusiasm for their teams and to the communities that support them.

David Raymond, president of the Mascot Hall of Fame, said, “It's been created to honor great mascot performers, performances and character-branding programs that have inspired tradition and positively affected their communities.” Raymond, a UD alumnus, is the original Phillie Phanatic.

This year, there are 12 nominees for induction into the Mascot Hall of Fame.
