James O'Neill, professor of economics and director of the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, was quoted in a June 23 News Journal story about Delaware's dismal ranking in new business activity. O'Neill said he finds the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation study “upsetting and alarming,” and said state officials should take it seriously. O'Neill also was quoted in a June 22 News Journal story about small businesses. Irene Davis, professor of physical therapy, was quoted in a June 22 New York Times story about expensive custom insoles for those who run, walk or participate in other forms of exercise. Meryl Gardner, associate professor of business administration, was quoted in a June 22 News Journal story about the state's new produce marketing campaign, “Grown Fresh with Care in Delaware.” Stuart Kaufman, professor of political science and international relations, wrote an op-ed piece in the June 22 News Journal concerning deficit spending by the federal government. Norman Wagner, Alvin B. and Julia O. Stiles Professor of Chemical Engineering, was a guest on Radio America's G. Gordon Liddy Show on June 21 to discuss his research on liquid body armor. The research was featured June 15 by the ScienCentral news agency and on the ABC television network. Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair in Corporate Governance and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a June 21 St. Paul Pioneer-Press story about legal problems faced by the chief executive officer of Life Time Fitness. Elson also was quoted in a June 18 Chicago Tribune story about one of the Tribune Company's directors and in a June 17 Bloomberg News story about Home Depot. Joel Best, professor of sociology and chairperson of the Department of Sociology, was featured in a June 19 News Journal story about his new book Flavor of the Month: Why Smart People Fall for Fads. Gerald J. Kauffman, director of the Water Resources Agency at UD, was quoted in a June 17 News Journal story about attempts to curb pollution in the Christina River watershed. Students Vincenza Carrieri-Russo, a UD junior, was featured in a June 20 News Journal story after she won the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for public service as part of the Jefferson Awards program. Alumni Allison Kendro, a former star soccer player for UD who graduated in May, was featured in a June 22 Sports Illustrated on Campus story for her achievements as a standout surfer. She is competing in the National Scholastic Surfing Association national championships in California. |
