UD sends donors a video ‘Thank you’

2:55 p.m., June 29, 2005--A colorful, new kind of thank-you message from the Office of Annual Giving sent via e-mail brings scenes from the UD campus directly to 26,000 donors and friends.

Thanks to modern technology, each recipient receives an e-mail of thanks that says, “As the University of Delaware ends another school year, we reflect upon our successes and dreams made possible. Thank you for your support of UD!” and includes a special video attachment.

Approximately one minute in length, the video includes scenes of students in classrooms, laboratories and on campus. It concludes with a photo of the Fightin’ Blue Hens rushing onto the football field, a parade of alumni at Commencement and Old College at twilight framed in shooting stars. The final message is, “Your support makes dreams possible. Thank you!” and a reminder to “Make a gift.”

According to Robert R. Davis, vice president of University development and alumni relations, other institutions, including Duke, Yale and Harvard have been producing e-mail messages of this kind for about a year. The UD video, produced by Lonnie Hearn, director; Bob DiIorio, video producer; and Micah Fegley, graphic designer II; all of Information Technologies-University Media Services, was several months in the making and is based on a video produced for The Campaign for Delaware gala.

“The video is extremely well done and has captured the essence of what it’s like to be on the University campus and what is made possible by the support of our alumni and friends,” Davis said.
