Three new trustees join UD board
Chelina Tirrell, who graduated from the University with a bachelors degree in biology on May 28, was elected to a one-year term as the recent graduate trustee, and Christopher H. Schell, president of Schell Brothers, a construction company that specializes in custom residential and commercial construction, was elected to a six-year term, both at the boards semiannual meeting in May. Scott A. Green, a senior executive vice president of MBNA America, is a gubernatorial appointee, who also recently began a six-year term. When she was a student, Tirrell was a resident assistant and was an active member of several student organizations. A Blue Hen Ambassador and a Spirit Ambassador, she was a member of the NUCLEUS, an academic program for minority students who want to pursue careers in the sciences. Tirrell, of Millsboro, graduated from Sussex Central High School in 2001. She won much recognition at UD, including the Mountaire Farms Scholarship, NUCLEUS Outstanding Academic Achievement Award, UD Academic Scholarship and African American Students of Distinction honors. Tirrell, who plans to attend dental school, will complete an orthodontic internship over the next year.
Schell completed his MBA at Harvard Business School in 2002. He later sold his company and founded his own construction company. Schell lives in Lewes with his wife, the former Lori Wachter, a 1997 UD graduate, and their two children. Green, who is currently serving as the managing director of national sales for MBNA, graduated from UD in 1977 with a degree in international relations and holds a law degree from American Universitys Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. Green, of Wilmington, is a member of the Delaware Stadium Corp. and of the Delaware Compensation Commission. He also serves as a cochairperson of a task force studying revisions to the city of Wilmingtons financial structure. Article by Martin Mbugua To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
