Student arrested for marijuana trafficking

4:03 p.m., April 21, 2005--A University of Delaware student, Shawn Mizrach, 20, of Marlboro, N.J., was one of three individuals arrested Tuesday, April 19, by the Newark Police for trafficking in marijuana.

The arrest concluded a yearlong investigation that centered around Mizrach, a senior in the College of Business and Economics, receiving large quantities of marijuana from New York and New Jersey and distributing it throughout the UD campus.

He was arrested in the hallway of his apartment building in the 300 block of Scholar Drive after he was seen meeting with his source of supply. He and his co-conspirators had 14.4 pounds of marijuana. After a search of his apartment and car, a 2001 Mercedes C320, $9,600 in cash was seized.

The three defendants--who also include Borris Baranik and Isay Kleyman who are not UD students--were all charged with trafficking in marijuana, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for keeping controlled substances, conspiracy in the second degree and resisting arrest. Mizrach also was charged with possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school.

The three were arraigned and released on $35,000 unsecured bond. Mizrach must report to UD’s Offfice of Judicial Affairs to determine his status at the University.
