WVUD promotes safe driving March 17 11:27 a.m., March 11, 2005--WVUD, 91.3 FM, is taking part in a special safety campaign to promote safe driving on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.
Andrea Summers, community relations officer for the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, said that half of all traffic deaths on St. Patricks Day involve drinking. One reason we went to WVUD to run spots is that male populations between the ages of 18-30 make up most DUI arrests in Delaware, so, we very much want our message to be heard on university campuses, she said. The 30-second announcements are voiced by Corporal David Kerr of the Newark Police and Corporal Jeff Oldham of the Delaware State Police. The copy reads, Did you know that half of all traffic deaths on St. Patrick's Day are alcohol related? That's why we'll be joining officers across the region to run DUI checkpoints that day. It's called Checkpoint Strike Force, an all-out offensive against drinking and driving. Every impaired driver at every checkpoint will be arrested. So, if you drink, don't risk your freedom, your career, your license or your life by driving, because luck won't save you, only a designated driver will. In Delaware, CSF is a cooperative program involving the New Castle County DUI task force and New Castle County, state and local police departments. On St. Patricks Day, they will be operating DUI checkpoints across the state as well as roving patrols and arresting anyone drinking impaired and driving.
