Student designs highlighted at fashion show

For festive formal occasions, two gowns designed by seniors (left) Kenny Bywah and (right) Nate Metz are modeled at the Synergy Fashion Group show last Saturday night.
1:09 p.m., May 19, 2005--Synergy’s Saturday, May 14, fashion show sizzled with student designs that ranged from sleek and sophisticated to fun and funky. A student group, Synergy produces the annual fashion show highlighting the collections of senior apparel-design students and others.

Entitled “Masterpieces: Fashion Unveiled,” the show attracted an audience of approximately 500 people, according to Synergy president, senior Nate Metz.

The fashions were judged by industry professionals in three categories and winners received cash awards ranging from $75 to $150. The winning designers were:

  • Judges’ Favorite--first place, Kenny Bywah; second place, Tommie Mankiewicz; third place, Metz;
  • Best Collection--first place, Kenny Bywah; second place, Meg Pfiffner; third place, Priscilla Kavanaugh; and
  • Blank Canvas Competition (in which students were given yards of muslin to make into original designs)--first place, Alex Rosenwald; second place, Marcy Castelgrande.
