Police investigate attempted robbery

9:21 a.m., March 28, 2005--Newark Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a 20-year-old UD student that occurred around 9 p.m., Friday, March 25.

The student was walking home from work near Olan Thomas Park on Paper Mill Road when he was confronted near a construction zone by a young man, 16-18 years old, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black ski mask and baggy denim jeans. The suspect displayed what the student believed was a black handgun and demanded his wallet. When the student said he had no wallet, the suspect patted him down, verifying that he had no wallet. Then, he told the student to turn away and fled the area toward East Cleveland Avenue.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Newark Police Criminal Investigations Division at (302) 366-7120 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
