Police investigate 3 robberies

10:08 a.m., March 11, 2005--Newark Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Thursday, March 10, and an armed robbery of a gas station that occurred on Friday, March 11, and University Police are investigating the robbery of a student that occurred on March 11.

Around 2:40 p.m., March 10, a man walked into the Citizens Bank at 117 East Main St. and handed the teller a demand note. He then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as 30 to 35 years old, with a goatee, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, weighing about 200 pounds and wearing a black knit hat, sunglasses and a black jacket.

At about 4:20 a.m., March 11, a man entered the Sunoco A-Plus at 287 Elkton Rd., acted as if he were going to make a purchase and then pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money from the register. The employee complied, and he fled the store toward West Park Place, with the cash. The employee was not injured.

This suspect is described as 21 to 25 years old, 5’3” to 5’6” tall, weighing 135-155 pounds and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, navy shoes and a black ski mask. He was carrying a maroon backpack.

University Police are investigating the assault of a student that turned into a robbery about 3:30 a.m., March 11, near the Perkins Student Center parking garage. The student had just returned from a bus trip to a bar in Baltimore, and witnesses say he was involved in an altercation on the bus with another man, who apparently called some friends to meet the bus. The student was assaulted after getting off the bus, and his jacket and wallet were taken. The student was treated at the Christiana Emergency Room for a cut on his forehead. Anyone with information should contact University Police at (302) 831-2222.
