UD is 26th among top public schools 12:01 a.m., Aug. 19, 2005--The University of Delaware is ranked 26th among the nation's top public universities in U.S. News and World Report's 2006 America's Best Colleges issue. UD is ranked 66th among all national universities, both public and private, tied with Miami University of Ohio. In the magazine's ranking of best undergraduate engineering programs among schools whose highest degree is a doctorate, UD's College of Engineering is tied at 51st, with the Colorado School of Mines, Rutgers at New Brunswick, the universities of Iowa and Missouri at Rolla and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. In a section on programs to look for, UD is recognized for its outstanding undergraduate research program. "These rankings, similar to last year's, indicate the University's solid position among the nation's universities," UD President David P. Roselle said. "Our very strong freshman applicant poolmore than 23,000 each yearand a graduate applicant pool more than three times the size of those offered admission are even more meaningful indications of the University's high reputation. The quality of our educational offerings, our distinguished faculty and attentive staff and our attractive and up-to-date facilities, coupled with substantial amounts of financial aid, make us both a highly desired and an affordable choice." U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on peer assessment (weighted 25 percent), retention (20 percent), faculty resources (20 percent), student selectivity (15 percent), financial resources (10 percent), graduation rate performance (5 percent) and alumni giving rate (5 percent).
