Picnic of appreciation at President’s House

2:37 p.m., May 20, 2005--President and Mrs. David P. Roselle hosted a picnic, Tuesday evening, May 17, at the President’s House in appreciation of the work of Blue Hen Ambassadors, Multicultural Recruitment Assistants and Ag Ambassadors. Approximately 140 students were present at the event.

The members of the three groups encourage high school students to consider UD as their school of choice, by sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the University of Delaware.

At the picnic, President Roselle shared some statistics and facts about the three groups with the students.

There are more than 200 Blue Hen Ambassadors, who met with more than 35,000 visitors this year for tours, Decision Days in April, Discovery Days in July and open houses during the academic year. Each week 17 different tour times were scheduled. Mike McCloskey, admissions counselor, coordinates the Blue Hen Ambassadors.

There are 63 Ag Ambassadors who hosted 450 prospective students this year and participated in 50 events, including tours, panels, high school visits and other activities. Karen Aniunas, assistant dean of student services in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, coordinates the Ag Ambassadors.

There are eight Multicultural Recruitment Assistants (MRAs) who do most of the planning and organization for three minority overnight programs. The MRAs meet with prospective students and families, call and remind students of application dates and deadlines and share their own experiences in choosing UD. This year, the University has its highest number of students of color enrolling. Ernesto Lopez, associate director of admissions, coordinates the MRAs.
