Memorial parade draws thousands

1:06 p.m., May 19, 2005--More than 2,000 persons lined Main Street and The Green of UD’s Newark campus on Sunday, May 15, to pay tribute to America’s servicemen and women as part of the annual Armed Forces Weekend events.

Ceremonies began at 1 p.m. on The Green with a full military ceremony, including massing the colors and a review of the troops by state and local officials, followed by a rifle salute to fallen comrades by members of the armed forces.

This year’s parade and ceremonies were dedicated to the Delaware National Guard. The event, in its 70th year, featured more than 80 marching units, including historic military, active duty, reserve ROTC, Junior ROTC and veterans’ units.
