Police investigate Newark Library robbery

3:28 p.m., April 20, 2005--Newark Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred around 9:40 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, at the Newark Library on Library Avenue.

A clerk at the library café arrived for work and was entering the storeroom when she found the suspect hiding inside. He pointed a handgun at her and demanded she enter the storeroom and turn over the café money. When she refused, an argument ensued, which caught the attention of other library customers. When the suspect pointed the handgun at them, they went back into the library, and the suspect forced the clerk into the storeroom. He stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot in the direction of George Read Village.

The suspect is described as 20-25 years old, 5’7” to 5’10” tall, wearing blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt and a mask covering his face. He has a short military haircut and a mustache.

Anyone with information should call the Newark Police at (302) 366-7110, ext. 136 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
