Survey places Lerner college in world’s top 100

2:57 p.m., March 8, 2005--UD’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics was ranked in the top 100 business schools worldwide and nationally, based on the research contributions to 22 leading business journals by faculty. The study was carried out by the School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas for the period from 2000 to 2005.

In world rankings, UD was 85th, with the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business Administration ranked 84 and the City University of Hong Kong listed 86.

In the national rankings, UD was 78th, between the Darden school (77) and Northeastern University’s College of Business Administration (79).

In both national and world rankings, the top three were the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, Harvard Business School and New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.

In different fields, UD was ranked 39th in management journals, 64th in marketing journals and 52nd in finance journals.

“The University of Delaware did well in these rankings, and the study indicates that the Lerner College faculty are productive researchers,” John Sawyer, chairperson of business administration, said. “One factor to keep in mind is that Delaware does not have a doctoral program in these business disciplines, and most of the top schools do have doctoral programs, which lead to more research opportunities. Our faculty also publishes in other leading journals that were not included in this study.”
