UD men’s rowing club competes in regatta

12:08 p.m., April 19, 2005--The University of Delaware Men’s Rowing Club competed in the Knecht Cup regatta last weekend on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.

On Saturday, UD’s lightweight crews faced off against tough competition in difficult conditions, with strong winds and currents. The first varsity lightweight crew won its event, completing the 2000-meter course in a time of 6:57.3. St. Joseph’s University finished second, followed by Mercyhurst, the second UD crew, Bucknell and Fairfield. In the freshman lightweight event, the first UD boat come out on top in a time of 7:27.2.

The varsity heavyweight crew finished first in the petite final and seventh overall. They defeated the University of Massachusetts, George Mason, Drexel and LaSalle universities in the petite final. The freshmen heavyweights finished fifth in the grand final in 6:20.9, just 12 seconds behind first-place Marist.

The second varsity eight completed the course in sixth place in 7:08.6, the freshmen four finished third in the petite final and ninth overall in 7:27.7 and the varsity four finished eighth overall in 8:01.1.
