UD volleyball raises funds for Katrina relief 2:19 p.m., Oct. 12, 2005--As the Gulf Coast recovers from the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, University of Delaware Head Coach Bonnie Kenny and the Fightin Blue Hens volleyball team have joined in the relief effort. The Hens have been seeking individuals to pledge to sponsor each player for 10 cents a point for all of their matches. The money raised will be donated to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. UD freshman Molly Rand is from Metairie, La., in hard-hit Jefferson Parish, and her family was affected by the storm. People dont realize the magnitude of this disaster, Kenny said. We will be seeking pledges for all of our remaining home matches. After a weekend on the road, UD will play its next home game at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21, on Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building. They will take on Colonial Athletic Association rival Virginia Commonwealth University that evening and will remain at home to face the College of William & Mary at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22. To support the fund raising effort, contact Kenny at 831-8606 or via email at [bjkenny@udel.edu]. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
