Police investigate burglary, assault of student

12:53 p.m., Sept. 26, 2005--Newark Police are investigating a burglary and assault of a UD student that occurred at 12:07 a.m., Monday, Sept. 26, a 1 Holton Place in Newark.

A suspect—described as 5 feet to 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds--entered the residence through an unlocked front door. Once inside, he encountered a 21-year-old man who is a UD student and struck him in the head with a hammer. He then kicked in a bedroom door and removed a safe from inside the room. The suspect had the victim help him carry the safe from the house and put it in a pick-up truck belonging to the victim. The suspect then fled the area with the safe in the victim's truck.

The victim said the safe contained an unknown amount of cash and some personal papers. He sustained a laceration to his head and foot and was taken by ambulance to receive medical attention.

The suspect is wanted for burglary, assault, theft and larceny of a motor vehicle.
