Habitat for Humanity fund-raiser, May 14

3:42 p.m., May 6, 2005--Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County (HFHNCC) unveils the 2005 edition of its “Ornaments of Hope” series featuring the “Deer Park Tavern,” an historic eating place on Main Street in Newark.

The early release of the ornament will take place at a special kick-off event from 3-8 p.m., Saturday, May 14, at the Deer Park Tavern. The unveiling is open to the public and free of charge. Light food and refreshments will be served.

The “Deer Park Tavern” ornaments of hope are $15, and will be available in time for graduation for those who would like a keepsake of Newark history. Proceeds from the sale of ornaments directly contribute to Habitat’s mission to build affordable housing for low-income families.

In addition to the Deer Park ornament, previous year ornaments will be available for purchase, as well as limited edition complete sets of all six years including Rockford Tower, the Grand Opera House, the Wilmington Train Station, Smith’s Bridge and the Deer Park.

The ornaments are 14K gold-plated, commemorative limited editions. Each is numbered and presented in a folder embossed with the HFHNCC logo and includes a certificate of authenticity and a small vignette on the history of the landmark.

The “Ornament of Hope” series was created by renowned local artist and watercolorist, W. James McGlynn. Since 2000, McGlynn has provided etchings of local landmarks in New Castle County for the “Ornaments of Hope” series. He will be at the Deer Park to sign ornaments.
