Senior class gift could set new record

Previous class gifts: In December, a plaque commemorating those who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks was installed in a small park area created on the South Green near Memorial and Alison halls. A plaque, flush mounted in the park, reads: In memory of UD alumni and friends and all others who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Given by the members of the Classes of 2002 and 2003. |
9:50 a.m., May 13, 2005--Pledges are pouring in since the Class of 2005 voted to improve Harrington Beach as its legacy to the University. Pledges have already exceeded the senior class goal by 53 percent.
Heather Barron, assistant director for university development, said the class goal was to raise $30,000 to landscape the area behind the Perkins Student Center known as Harrington Beach, and, so far, theyve received $46,000 in pledges with more than $33,000 already in hand.
Barron said 1,200 students, parents, alumni and friends have pledged donations, with 300 of those directly from students.
The names of those who have contributed will appear in the 156th University of Delaware Commencement program, Saturday, May 28.
Brian Budd and Dhiren Ponnambalam, co-chairpersons of the senior class gift committee, will present the check to UD President David Roselle during Commencement ceremonies.
