Students conduct fall phone-a-parent campaign

2:41 p.m., Oct. 20, 2005--Each fall and spring, the University development office gives parents an opportunity to become more involved in their students’ college experience by directly communicating with parents.

The 'Fund for Delaware' is a telefund program within the development office that employs approximately 100 undergraduate students each year representing most of the Universities colleges.

Over the next few weeks, these students will be contacting parents of undergraduate students enrolled at the University to elicit information that UD needs to better serve its students and their parents and to impart information to parents.

Students will ask for up-to-date information needed for University records; then, student callers will inform parents about events and trends that are happening on campus and parents will have a chance to ask questions. Finally, parents are able to make donations to the University or to any resource, program or organization on campus that they feel will enhance their or any child’s education.

Parents may direct their contributions to scholarships, colleges, libraries, student organizations, athletic or community service programs, building and construction or any of the many resources that affect their student’s education. “One hundred percent will go to whatever activity the parent requests,” Heather Barron, assistant director of University development, said.

“It’s a great way for the University, as an institution, to directly communicate with parents and allow them to show their support,” Barron said. “We hope they enjoy hearing from our student callers.”
