Nearly 2,000 attended the tailgate dinner in the Delaware Field House before the Saturday night football.
2:09 p.m., Sept. 23, 2005--This year’s Freshman Family Weekend, held Sept. 16-18, was a great success, according to Nancy Millard, assistant director of alumni relations. “It was a beautiful sunny weekend and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves,” she said. “The turnout was even better than we had expected,” she said.

Almost 3,000 tickets for the UD/West Chester football game and tailgate dinner were sold through Freshman Family Weekend, she said. “There were 1,900 places available for the tailgate dinner at the Delaware Field House, and we sold out.”

Lunch at the Kent Dining Hall was sold out, too, as was “Dessert with the Deans” on The Green. Millard said alumni relations expected 400 for “Dessert with the Deans” and nearly 500 attended.

Two information sessions about UD study abroad in Gore Hall were standing room only.

With 3,536 freshman in the Class of 2009, almost one-third of the class and their families attended.

The purpose of Freshman Family Weekend is for freshman and transfer students and their parents and family members to celebrate their new association with UD, while also acquainting new students and their parents with what is available in the University community.
