Job fairs give students employer access 5:12 p.m., March 8, 2005--UDs MBNA Career Services Center hosts 12 job fairs each year aimed at helping students get their careers off to a running start. Students in all majors find job fairs an efficient way to interact with potential employers, practice communication skills, learn about the job market, find summer jobs and internships and locate permanent employment following graduation, according to Marianne Green, assistant director, MBNA Career Services Center. The Career Services Center also holds workshops on "Developing Job-Seeking Skills" that help students research potential jobs and employers, write resumes and cover letters, prepare short "commercials" about their personal skills and backgrounds and practice eye-contact and handshake skills to help them build confidence. So far this semester, job fairs have been held for students interested in careers in engineering and technology, health and nursing science and agriculture and natural resources. Upcoming job fairs include UD’s Teacher Job Fair, slated for March 21-22, and UD’s Spring Job Fair on Thursday, April 21. Rutgers, Towson and other nearby universities welcome UD students to some of their job fairs, as well. For more information, go to [www.udel.edu/csc/happening.html].
