DelDOT at work widening Route 7

1:29 p.m., June 30, 2005--The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has announced that work has begun on widening of Route 7 between Route 40 and Route 273 to accommodate the large volume of motor vehicles traveling the road.

“DelDOT is changing it from a two-lane road to a four-lane road,” according to Mark Buckalew, project supervisor. “The scope of our project will improve the quality of residents' commute to and from work, providing them with a safer, more picturesque road that's enjoyable to travel."

Additional improvements include landscaped medians with brick pattern concrete, stripe work, and paving.

The project has two phases. The first phase is currently occurring between Route 40 and Newtown Road and the anticipated completion date is Dec. 31. The second phase will occur between Newtown Road and Route 273.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the area and to expect lane shifts and intermittent lane closures.
