Police investigate robbery on Cleveland Avenue

2:55 p.m., March 7, 2005--Newark Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at the off-campus apartment of a UD student at 2:30 a.m., Saturday, March 5.

The student was having a small party at his apartment on East Cleveland Avenue, when five uninvited guests entered the apartment. He was notified that they were stealing property from the apartment, confronted them and a fight started. The student was struck over the back of the head with a bottle, which caused a laceration, and, when his friends intervened, the suspects left through the front door.

Once outside, the fight continued with a second person being assaulted. The second victim was leaving another residence on Cleveland Avenue when he saw the fight in front of the apartment next door. He said he was standing on the sidewalk when he was approached by one of the suspects, who cut him across the face with some type of knife or razor. All the suspects then fled the area.

The student was treated at Newark Emergency Center for a laceration and contusion to the back of the head, and the other victim was treated at Christiana Hospital for deep lacerations to the face and ear.

Property taken during the robbery included a camera and cell phone.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Newark Police at (302) 366-7110, ext. 132, or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
