UD ranks high in chemists, chem engineers 2:33 p.m., Oct. 11, 2005--UDs departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering received high rankings for the number of its graduates in the September issue of Chemical and Engineering News. UD is ranked 13th out of 631 bachelors degree programs in the nation, approved by the American Chemical Society, with 34 certified bachelor-degree graduates, tying with Purdue University. In overall statistics reported by the magazine, UD had 34 certified graduates, 10 noncertified graduates, nine masters degree graduates and 17 doctoral graduates in chemistry and biochemistry. UD was ranked third in the top 10 chemical engineering producers in the doctoral degree category with 18 doctoral graduates in chemical engineering in programs approved by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was first, followed by the University of Texas at Austin. In overall statistics in Chemical and Engineering News, UD had 51 bachelors degree graduates, five masters degree graduates and 18 doctoral graduates in chemical engineering.
