Recipe picked for national contest

2:34 p.m., Sept. 15, 2005--Sharon Collison, a UD instructor in nutrition, who also has her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nutrition from UD, is taking her original chocolate cheesecake with mocha sauce on the road next week.

Her recipe has been selected for the Southern Living cooking contest in the “Southern Dessert” category with only three semifinalists nationwide in the running.

There are five categories in the contest--30-minute meals, main entrees, kids-like-it-too recipes and signature recipes.

Collison has received $1,000 as a semifinalist and is competing for $10,000 in the dessert category, which would put her in the running for the $100,000 grand prize.

Collison and her husband will depart for Mobile, Ala., next week for the big cook-off event.

An inventive chef, Collison said she loves to cook and enjoys creating new recipes. She was the Delaware finalist in the National Chicken Cooking Contest held in Charlotte, N.C., in 2003.
