Jones Collection book selling strongly 10:07 a.m., April 26, 2005--Sales of the book A Century of African American Art: The Paul R. Jones Collection, which accompanies the collections grand opening show at the University of Delaware, have been brisk, according to representatives of the Rutgers University Press. The publisher has sold nearly the entire stock of the hardback books, which had an initial press run of 600, and has sold about 3,500 of the paperbacks. A Century of African American Art was edited by Amalia Amaki, curator of the Paul R. Jones Collection, and the 259-page book features thought-provoking essays on the works in the collection, the artists who created them and the social and historical contexts that engendered them. The book also features vivid color plates of works in the current show, which has the same name as the book. The exhibition will run through May at Mechanical Hall, recently renovated as gallery space and the home of the Paul R. Jones Collection at UD, and in the University Gallery in Old College. The Paul R. Jones Collection at the University of Delaware is among the worlds oldest, largest and most complete holdings of works by 20th-Century African American artists. Jones donated his collection, amassed over the course of the last four decades, to UD in February 2001. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
