Prof. Heck wins Carothers Award 4:03 p.m., May 4, 2005--Richard F. Heck, professor emeritus of chemistry and biochemistry, is the recipient of the 2005 Wallace Carothers Award. Hecks organometallic chemistry research laid the groundwork for processes used in modern organic synthesis. The award, bestowed by the Delaware section of the American Chemical Society, was created in memory of Wallace H. Carothers, inventor of nylon and a pioneer of modern polymer chemistry. First conferred in 1976, the award honors innovators who have made outstanding contributions to the field of chemistry. It was presented to Heck on April 19.
