Police investigate attempted robbery

3:36 p.m., Oct. 8, 2005--The Newark Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery that occurred at approximately 12:50 a.m., Friday, Oct. 7, in the rear parking lot of the Stone Balloon, 115 East Main St., in Newark.

Two men approached two women who were getting into their vehicle. The men had bandannas covering their faces, and one said, "Do you know what time it is?" One of the women said she felt that she was about to be robbed so she threw her purse into the vehicle and ran to the other side. One of the suspects followed her. The other woman then began honking the vehicle’s horn and was able to frighten the suspects away. Neither woman was injured.

The first suspect is described as 20-23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a plain black baseball cap and a white bandanna covering his face.

The second suspect is described as 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing a black shirt and a black bandanna with white dots covering his face.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Paul Keld in the Newark Police Department at 366-7110, ext. 136.
