Police announce arrests in Main Street robberies

3:57 p.m., March 14, 2005--Newark’s Burglary Task Force has announced the arrests of four suspects for burglaries and robberies committed recently at businesses on East Main Street in Newark.

Thomas J. Mathena was arrested Feb. 18 for the burglary of National 5&10 on Jan. 28 and a robbery at Formal Affairs on Feb. 16. He is currently out on bail awaiting case disposition.

Charles P. Bowden was arrested March 3 for the burglary of National 5&10. Additional criminal charges are pending against him for burglaries committed at several stores in the Galleria on Jan. 20 and for the robbery of Village Imports on Jan. 8. Bowden is currently incarcerated at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on a secured bail and for violation of conditions of his federal probation.

Lisa M. Kirk was arrested March 3 for her involvement in the Formal Affairs robbery. She is currently being held at the Women’s Correctional Institute on secured bail.

Martin JJ Kirk was arrested March 3 for his involvement in the burglary of National 5&10. He is currently being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on secured bail.
