David Hollowell honored by Delaware architects

David Hollowell (center), executive vice president and treasurer, is inducted as an honorary member of the Delaware Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Delaware) by Todd Tebbetts Breck (left), AIA Delaware president, and Jim Tevebaugh, AIA Delaware member and master of ceremonies.
2:13 p.m., Sept. 21, 2005--David Hollowell, UD’s executive vice president and treasurer, was named an honorary member of the Delaware Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Delaware) during a reception on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Earlier this year, Hollowell was named an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects by the national headquarters in recognition of his instrumental work in the construction and renovation of millions of square feet of space on two major campuses.

Since his arrival in 1988, Hollowell’s efforts at UD include directing a comprehensive campus renewal and expansion program, comprised of more than 3.3 million square feet of new construction and renovation valued at more than $700 million.

Both new and restored projects have earned the University and its architects design awards from the Newark Historical Society, the New Castle County Historic Review Board, the Delaware Landscape and Nursery Association and AIA Maryland.

“I have had the good fortune to be part of two long-term university administrations, serving with presidents who were and are campus builders: First with John Silber at Boston University, and, for the last 15 years, with David Roselle,” Hollowell said. “While this recognition is bestowed upon me, it really belongs to the universities I have had the pleasure to serve and to the many talented colleagues, architects, engineers and contractors I have been fortunate to work with over the years.”

As president of the Society for College and University Planning, Hollowell realigned and revitalized the organization and helped it to become the nation’s leading professional society for college and university planning.

Founded more than 70 years ago, AIA DE represents the professional interests of Delaware’s architects and provides an organization through which local architects, emerging professionals and allied partners are dedicated to excellence in design and livability in buildings and communities.
