Bacon to head Southern Delaware Academic Programs
In his new role, he will interact with University units in southern Delaware to develop a coordinated academic programming plan and oversee its implementation, Rich said. Based in Georgetown, Bacon will serve as faculty coordinator of the Associate in Arts (AA) Program and the UD Academic Center in Georgetown, where he will supervise all activities, including scheduling of courses, student advisement, recruitment of students and interaction with high school admissions counselors and administrators. Previously, Bacon served as director of the Agriculture and Technology Education Program in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as a faculty member of the Department of Food and Resource Economics and faculty adviser of the UD chapter of the National FFA, formerly the Future Farmers of America. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee and joined the UD faculty in 1985. He currently is working on his doctorate in educational leadership at the University. I am pleased to have this opportunity to serve in these two positions, coordinating academic programs in southern Delaware and coordinating the Associate in Arts program, Bacon said. In my current position in the field of agricultural education, I have interacted with faculty and staff in southern Delaware and am looking forward to working more closely with them. I also have visited most of the southern Delaware high schools, placing student teachers there and developing agricultural science programs, which will be helpful in coordinating the Associate in Arts program.
