10:09 a.m., June 16, 2004--A roundup of recent news items about UD, its faculty, staff and alumni.

Ben Yagoda, professor of English, has an article on language in the June 18 issue of the Chronicle Review. Yagoda is the author of “The Sound on the Page: Style and Voice in Writing,”which is being published this month by HarperCollins.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a June 15 St. Paul Pioneer Press story about lack of attendance by corporate board members at annual shareholder meetings.

Ismat Shah, associate professor of materials science, was quoted in a June 14 Detroit News story about the growing importance of nanotechnology in automobile assembly.

A new book titled “Walden Pond: A History” by W. Barksdale Maynard, who teaches art history at UD, was noted in the Books in Brief section of the June 13 New York Times.

ALUMNI

Artist Simmie Knox, who studied at the University of Delaware, painted the official portrait of President Bill Clinton and has been featured in articles about the unveiling in several national news outlets. The June 16 issue of The News-Journal ran a page-one story about him.
