UD President David P. Roselle was featured in two recent columns in the Lexington Herald-Leader. In the May 30 issue, Herald-Leader writer Jerry Tipton noted that Roselle’s tenure as president of the University of Kentucky, which included a thorough investigation of the powerhouse men’s basketball team, proves that “no good deed goes unpunished.” He suggested that for Roselle’s work in cleaning up the program, UK should name a scholarship in his honor. In the June 6 issue, Tipton writes that Roselle scoffs at the NCAA’s latest attempts to police college athletics through a series of rewards and punishments. "Anybody who has administered anything knows that if you threaten people's money, you get their attention,” Roselle said. “Nowhere in there does it say if major violations occur, you don't get a damn dime. So I don't think they're serious about it."
Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in two stories in the current issue of Corporate Board Member magazine, one on the challenges faced by directors and corporate officials in politically charged times and the other on board member independence.
The UD Disaster Research Center, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, is featured in the June 10 News Journal Crossroads section.
Norman Wagner, professor of chemical engineering, was featured in a June 9 WPVI-TV News story about the liquid body armor his research team has developed.
Christine Schultz, associate director of admissions, was quoted in a June 9 Dover Post story on the value of Advanced Placement courses for entering students. “We’re very open to students with AP credit,” Schultz said. “We like to see students that have had a challenging curriculum [because] they do better in college.”
ALUMNI
Tom Conner, who holds a UD bachelor’s degree in English, was named publisher of the Northwest Florida Daily News. Conner was editor of the newspaper from 1986 until 2001, when he was named publisher of the Porterville Recorder in California.
