Ralph Begleiter, Rosenberg Professor of Communication, hosted a lecture by David Kay, former chief weapons inspector in Iraq, that drew a large crowd to Mitchell Hall and widespread media interest. Kay was interviewed on campus for an NBC Nightly News special report on the Iraq National Congress, and his visit and presentation were covered by the Associated Press, the Wilmington News Journal and WHYY-TV.
Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an April 29 New York Post story about the firing of the chief executive officer of Nortel Networks after officials warned the company might have to reduce declared earnings. He also is quoted in a Forbes story about pension funds that have taken active roles in corporate governance issues.
Louis Hirsh, director of admissions, is quoted in an April 29 USA Today story about the use of wait lists by universities.
McKay Jenkins, associate professor of English, is featured in an April 29 Voice of America story about Operation Homecoming, in which the National Endowment for the Arts is sponsoring writing workshops for returning veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Norman J. Wagner, professor of chemical engineering, has had research featured in an April 29 Associated Press story about liquid body armor for use in the military’s protective vests.
A poll concerning attitudes toward public education conducted by the Delaware Education Research and Development Center at UD was highlighted in the April 29 Wilmington News Journal, and Cheryl Ackerman, senior associate for evaluation at the center who presented the results to a joint meting of the state House and Senate education committees, was interviewed April 28 by WDEL.
