Carole Marks, UD professor of sociology and criminal justice, is cited in the February issue of Scientific American in the further reading section of an article on the Great Migration. Her book Farewell, Were Good and Gone: The Great Black Migration (Indiana University Press, 1989) was a major source for the article. Leland Ware, Louis L. Redding Chair, is featured in a story in the Feb. 3 West Chester Daily Local News concerning a presentation at West Chester University. Ware discussed the struggle for racial equality, from the Emancipation Proclamation through the recent Supreme Court decisions on affirmative action. Thomas Kaminski, associate professor of health and exercise sciences, is quoted in a story in the Feb. 1 issue of BioMechanics. The story focuses on UD research on ankle strength. ALUMNI Missy Meharg, former UD field hockey star and now head coach at the University of Maryland, is featured in a Feb. 4 Wilmington News Journal story about progress for women in sports.
