Computer crimes course

10:15 a.m., Aug. 7, 2003--UD’s Department of Public Safety sponsored a five-day training session the week of July 28 on computer crimes investigation, taught by Internet Crimes Inc., which taught participants how to examine a full range of computer-related crimes including

  • Internet fraud;
  • Identity theft;
  • Online child exploitation;
  • Electronic harassment;
  • Computer intrusions; and
  • Theft of intellectual property.

Three officers from UD Public Safety took the course. Along with representatives from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Secret Service, the Maryland Division of Corrections, the Edison, N.J., Police Department, the U.S. Department of State and the Constalation Energy Group.

“As computer crime increases in general, this is an important area to have trained officers at UD. Our goal is to be able to assist the University community and to keep the University network free of these computer crime problems,” Joe Evans, training officer for UD Public Safety, said.
